We still don’t know what the next OnePlus phone will look like, but more rumors are on the way. Most of the information suggests OnePlus will skip the “4” (4 is unlucky in China) and release the OnePlus 5 later this year.
The new rumors suggest the OnePlus 5 will mimic Samsung’s curved display. Whether this ends up happening or not is up to OnePlus and their focus on the price, since a curved display would increase the phone price significantly.
While the OnePlus One and 2 had sandstone, and the OP3 aluminum, the rumors suggest that the OnePlus 5 will be ceramic, or at least look like ceramic. Many commenters have pointed out that OnePlus’ rivals such as Xiaomi have started using ceramic materials, so it is very believable that OnePlus would go in this direction.
RAM-wise, the OnePlus 5 should have around 8 GB. OnePlus will be pressured to outdo the OnePlus 3’s 6 GB, so 8 GB seems like a safe bet.
Along with the latest Snapdragon (which will probably be the 835 at the OP5 release), the OnePlus 5 should keep the best of the OnePlus 3. That’s the fast charge technology, normal headphone jack, at least 64 GB of memory, and latest Android-OxygenOS operation system.
Wireless charging is not expected to show up on the OP5, and if it does, it will probably be kept as a surprise. Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, has spoken before on wireless charging. Overall, he stated that while OnePlus has considered it, the charging ability for the production cost is bad – consumers would rather have a phone that charges fast and has a long battery life than the novelty of wireless charging.
That’s the rumors so far. If I missed something, leave a comment!
